As the Greenwich Historical Society approaches its 85th Anniversary, we’ve developed a dynamic plan to advance our mission and to make greater contributions to the community.
To meet the growth of an increasingly broader constituency, the demand for on-site exhibitions to showcase works created by artists who lived, studied, taught and painted at Bush-Holley Historic Site and the technical standards for archiving and presenting Greenwich history, the Historical Society must enhance its campus on multiple fronts—from doubling visitor parking to direct access and an elevator for seniors and the disabled to new, improved exhibition and gallery spaces and archives.
At the heart of this plan is the reimaging of our campus, home to one of America’s first important art colonies, to present our nationally recognized historic buildings and landscape—and to welcome the entire community. Expanded and improved galleries are needed to share works from the permanent collection—as well as loans from museums and private collections—to underscore and explore the site’s significance in the development of American art.
Attendance at popular family events and after-school programs nearly doubled in the past year. Meeting the demand for innovative and educational family activities and touring groups is intrinsic to our need for a reimagined campus.
The renewed and expanded Greenwich Historical Society, the only organization focused solely on collecting and presenting materials and objects specific to Greenwich’s past, will rank at the forefront of the nation’s historical institutions and campuses—placing Greenwich’s story indelibly within the broad context of American history. For future generations, our reimagined vision will more effectively link the community’s past with the ever-changing present. With your participation, our ambitious campaign will provide the crucial support needed to realize this vision, making it possible for new programs and initiatives to be housed within a more welcoming and accessible campus for local, national and international visitors. Thank you for helping us reimagine our campus—to help expand our impact upon the community and nation.
