Rediscover Greenwich Avenue

Historic Mural Installations and Walking Tours

Historic buildings will become canvases for large-scale murals with text and images drawn from the Historical Society’s collections.

A series of murals created by artist Aaron Asis, will debut along Greenwich Avenue in conjunction with guided walking tours led by Justin Rivers, Untapped New York’s Chief Experience Officer with Christopher Shields, Historical Society Director of Library and Archives.

116 Greenwich Avenue

I had moved to Greenwich only a few months before, and one hot August day I was walking between Greenwich Avenue and Mason Street… those trees were the only reason I'd moved to Greenwich in the first place. These particular trees!

69 Greenwich Avenue

When a person walks in that door, they have chosen this shop. They deserve every courtesy extended to them, every courtesy. That is so important...I’d turn myself inside out for them.  My customers, I call them my friends because I just love them.

362 Greenwich Avenue

There was so much smoke in the air…and you could see the trolly tracks protruding through the roadway on Greenwich Ave of course it was two ways — coal was delivered to us, we had an icebox not a refrigerator, so we had ice delivered to us.

301 Greenwich Avenue

My dad had these crazy ideas to get life-sized caricatures to come to the stores to entertain the community. He would drive them down the avenue in a convertible Cadillac and the crowds would pour over to him — in the 70’s that was unheard of!

Two Way Street

Two Way Street is an installation of large scale archival imagery on view at the Greenwich Arts Council in conjunction with the 28th Art to the Avenue created to inspire new historical perspectives — to help us  better understand the past, appreciate the present and  build the future.

Created by artist Aaron Asis as part of Rediscover Greenwich, this initiative between Untapped New York and Greenwich Historical Society focuses on the history of Greenwich Avenue through interactive art activations and historic walking tours.
