The Teaching Assistant will support the daily running of the summer Art & History Camp program. Reporting to the Camp Director, the Teaching Assistant will help prepare all programmatic materials and supplies, aid in activities and instruction to campers, ensure daily set-up and clean-up of the camp classroom, and complete other additional camp tasks as advised by the Camp Director.
The Teaching Assistant must be an enthusiastic and motivated individual at least 18 years of age and pursuing a degree in Education through college or graduate study. The Teaching Assistant will present in a professional manner with strong communication skills, attention to detail and organization, and the ability to physically move about the camp property in various environmental conditions. Prior experience in student teaching and classroom management is required.
Per Connecticut youth camp regulations, the Teaching Assistant will be First Aid/CPR certified and have up-to-date Mandated Reporter Training. The Teaching Assistant will submit to a background check as required by the State.
The Teaching Assistant is a part-time, seasonal position which will begin with up to 8 hours of pre-camp preparation and follow with 20 hours per week for the three weeks of camp from July 13-31st. The duties will be compensated with a $1,200 stipend.

Essential Job Functions:
1. Assist the Camp Director in the daily operation of the summer camp.
- Train on the curriculum as outlined by the Director of Education
- Assist the Camp Director to run the daily activities and programs for campers
- Manage the set up and breakdown of daily camp activities
- Assist in programming presented by outside services
- Aid the Camp Director for daily camper drop-off and pick-up
- Oversee the direction of Camp Counselor(s) and CIT(s)
- Assist Camp Director in hosting the Family Friday each week to showcase the campers’ work to friends and family
2. Be prepared to attend to medical and safety needs of campers as needed.
- Must be First Aid/CPR certified
- Immediately assist the Camp Director and Camp First Aider in the instance of a medical emergency
- Ensure Mandated Reporting is provided to the Camp Director as necessary
3. Provide administrative support to the Camp Director
- Maintain material supply inventory and request program supplies as needed
- After each week concludes, work with the Camp Director in providing feedback and reflections for a final report on camp
The Teaching Assistant is also responsible for any tasks that may arise related to the success of the summer camp program.
