Exclusive Experiences
From October 1, 2025 National Historic Landmark Bush-Holley House will be closed to the public to undergo environmental upgrades that will help preserve the collections and provide an enhanced visitor experience. During the closure, we are excited to offer two new unique visitor experiences on campus as well as a video series highlighting our docents’ favorite aspects of the Bush-Holley House. These exclusive experiences are available only during the duration of the closure! See below for more information about these programs, our upcoming exhibition and related programming.
Guided Gallery Tours
On Wednesday, Thursdays and Fridays docents will be leading visitors through the Permanent Collections Gallery and Special Exhibitions Gallery. Our current exhibition features The Holley Boarding House: Inspiring American Impressionism. Exhibitions in our Permanent Collections Gallery include The Cos Cob Art Colony; Rediscovering the Cos Cob Art Colony A Tribute to Susan Larkin; Treasures from the Collections: Ceramics by Leon Volkmar; and the short film “Our Place in History.”
Behind the Scenes in the Archival Collections
On Fridays and Saturdays, visitors will have the opportunity to see treasures from the archival collection with tours of the library and archives. This “behind the scenes” opportunity will give visitors a chance to see primary sources such as maps and ephemera that are not frequently on display. Museum and archives staff will be on-hand to answer any questions.
For groups of more than 10, please visit our Group Tours page for more information.
NOTICE
Bush-Holley House closed until April 2026 for important environmental upgrades.
The House will reopen in April 2026, coinciding with the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence and the Historical Society’s programming in partnership with the America 250 Greenwich Commission. The upgrades are made possible through a 2023 Good to Great Grant from Connecticut Humanities, a Community Development Block Grant Program and the generosity of donors.
“We are deeply grateful for state and town funding that will enable us to achieve our long-term preservation and sustainability goals,” says Historical Society Executive Director and CEO Carol Cadou. “These upgrades will ensure continued stewardship of our historic collections for the thousands of visitors and school children who come to our campus each year for a greater appreciation of our shared past.”
