How did people in 1776 dress? What kinds of materials were clothes made from at that time? How did they differ from the clothes we wear today? Come find out in this family-friendly presentation inspired by the current exhibition, Fashioning America: 250 Years of Greenwich Style

As an avid fashion historian and educator, Historical Society Director of Education, Melissa Houston, will introduce how people dressed in the 18th century using reproductions and hands-on objects. At the end of this educational exploration, take some time to practice your best colonial dress with an opportunity to dress up or try some tasty and historically inspired tea.

This is not a drop of program. Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Speaker Biography

Melissa Houston

Director of Education, Greenwich Historical Society

Melissa started her professional career as a high school social studies teacher before moving into the museum field. She has over a decade of experience in collections management and a Masters in History which has helped inform how she crafts school programs and public tours. Melissa has worked with the Barnum Museum, the Newtown Historical Society, and Keeler Tavern Museum & History Center. Today, she serves as Director of Education at Greenwich Historical Society.
