Stewart to shed light on what it took to craft the Constitution and how it became the framework for American values.

In 1787, the U.S. Constitution was sent to the states for ratification. The two leading political parties engaged in a fierce debate regarding the rights protected by the Constitution. James Madison addressed these objections by drafting the first ten amendments, collectively known as the Bill of Rights, which was adopted in 1791. The rights protected in the first ten amendments- freedom of speech, press, religion, petition, assembly, and more- are the “unalienable rights” referred to in the Declaration of Independence. Dr. Stacey Close will discuss this essential addition to our nation’s founding documents.
