A look back at the event
Honoring Barbara and Ray Dalio in Conversation with David Rubenstein.
The Greenwich Historical Society is pleased to honor Barbara and Ray Dalio at our “History in the Making” event for their philanthropic contributions to Greenwich and beyond, and their commitment to ensuring a future that offers generations to come opportunities to make our world at large a better place. We are excited to announce that businessman, investor, and philanthropist David Rubenstein will be interviewing the Dalios in an intimate fireside chat, and Indra Nooyi, former Chairman and CEO of PepsiCo, and last year’s honoree, will be presenting the award.
Proceeds from the event will help expand and enhance our educational programs, including the partnership between the Historical Society and Title 1 schools in Greenwich.
Barbara Dalio serves as Director of Dalio Philanthropies, an enterprise supporting her family’s social impact endeavors, with particular interest in public education in Connecticut and efforts that enable young people and educators to achieve their full potential. Recently, Barbara co-founded The Partnership for Connecticut, a public-private partnership to help disengaged and disconnected youth and young adults access the educational and career opportunities they need to succeed in life. Her husband Ray Dalio is the founder and co-chairman of investment firm Bridgewater Associates, one of the world’s largest hedge funds. Together, the Dalios signed the Giving Pledge, vowing to donate more than half of their fortune to charitable causes within their lifetime.
In recognizing the Dalios leadership and celebrating their commitment to community and education, the Historical Society acknowledges he Dalio’s important place in a long history of Greenwich philanthropists who have given of themselves to make important positive impact on the world.
The Dalios are the eighth recipients of the Historical Society’s History in the Making Award, which was established in 2003 to recognize individuals from our community who are the history makers of our own time. Former awardees were Indra Nooyi, Derek Boothby, Thomas Foley, Curt Welling, Marie and Charlene Von Saher and Lewis Lehrman.
We hope you will join us to recognize the generosity and philanthropic leadership of our 2020 honorees. Proceeds from this year’s event will support the Greenwich Historical Society’s commitment to education, with a particular focus on expanding our Title 1 School programs.
