The Hackett Building
Early Greenwich motorists pause in front of the Hackett Building on Greenwich Avenue in this circa 1917 photograph from the archives at the Greenwich Historical Society. Although the John J. Hackett Excelsior Market has long since passed into the history of Greenwich businesses, the building at 315 Greenwich Avenue (near the corner of Havemeyer Place) still exists and many of the features seen in this image are quite recognizable today. Take a closer look on your next drive down the Avenue, or check out the address using the street view of your favorite mapping website. Just don’t try to park your car like this group.
