Sound Artists Akinori Matsumoto and Michael Pestel

Visiting Japanese sound artist Akinori Matsumoto and Middletown, CT based artist/musician Michael Pestel will perform on our campus during the Tavern Garden Market on Wednesday May 18th from 12-2 pm. Matsumoto creates sound objects from bamboo and paper that inspire and delight the senses.

Artful Arrangements: Heirloom Dahlias

Join us as we explore the history of and take floral inspiration from Constant MacRae’s masterfully designed floral arrangement. The Art of Flower Arrangement dahlia workshop will present the principles and simple techniques of floral design through demonstration, discussion and step-by-step hands-on instruction along with tips on keeping flowers looking fresh and long lasting…ensuring floral design art success.

Japanese Art and Culture and Japonisme at the Cos Cob Art Colony: A Special Curator-Led Tour of the Bush-Holley House

In this curator-guided tour, visitors will explore the Bush-Holley House with a focus on learning how Japanese art and culture were understood and imitated by American artists of the Cos Cob art colony. Visitors will also receive an introduction to the life and work of artist Genjiro Yeto (1867-1924), a Japanese immigrant who frequented the Holley family boardinghouse, and established a career as a successful illustrator of books for American audiences.
